Award recognizes significant contribution to the improvement of the built environment in the chapter area

 

Duluth, Minn. January 2, 2019 — Dan Hartman, Glensheen Director is the recipient of the 2018 AIA Northern Minnesota Community Builder Award.

 

Each year, the Northern Community Builder Award recognizes an individual, team or organization that has made a significant contribution to the built environment in the communities and industries of the AIA Northern Minnesota Chapter area. Nominees are evaluated for their impact in five areas: design excellence, environmental stewardship, community resilience, economic sustainability, and social consciousness.

 

Dan Hartman is the Director at Glensheen, the Historic Congdon Estate. The 12-acre estate features gardens, bridges, and the famous mansion, along with a collection of the original possessions of the Congdon family. The site is visited by more than 120,000 people per year and represents some of the finest craftsmanship and design in the history of Minnesota’s built environment.

 

During his leadership tenure, Hartman has established and grown community connections to keep the mansion and its grounds relevant in the region and top-of-mind as a regional destination, adding tours, concerts, promotions and more to introduce new generations to the history at Glensheen. He is a passionate advocate for design excellence and the power of architecture.

 

Prior to his leadership of Glensheen, Hartman also served on the Duluth City Council and Economic Development Authority and worked for the St. Louis County Historical Society. His commitment to connecting the history of the region to its current and future economic development is unmatched.

 

Hartman received his award at the annual AIA Northern Minnesota Chapter annual meeting on December 6, 2018 in Duluth, Minnesota.
