MINNEAPOLIS, August 29, 2017 — AIA Minnesota is pleased to announce Kodet Architectural Group, Ltd. as the 2017 AIA Minnesota Firm Award recipient. Given biennially, this prestigious award is the highest honor bestowed by the association, recognizing an AIA Minnesota member firm that has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture.
Established in 1983, Kodet is a mid-size firm specializing in the design of educational, religious and public architecture. The firm’s philosophy is dedication to exceeding client expectations through the design of functional, beautiful spaces while working successfully within project constraints.
“Kodet’s commitment to design excellence, generous community engagement and progressive design firm culture are an example of how architecture practices can positively impact the built environment and the community,” said nominator Steve Fiskum, FAIA. “The team is dedicated to mentorship, service and education, in addition to delivering top-quality projects for clients.”
The AIA Minnesota Firm Award selection committee, comprised of AIA Minnesota board members and leadership, agreed that Kodet met or exceeded all criteria for selection. Criteria include: demonstrated depth and breadth of work impacting the profession in Minnesota; produced work that is a product of a collaborative environment; work that transcends specific areas of expertise; and work that is known by the profession and outside it for its quality.
- Kodet designs many types of public spaces, from sacred to educational and beyond, advancing award-winning design in many different spheres;
- The 20 architects and designers within the firm work in interdisciplinary teams, collaborating to produce innovative projects for clients;
- Kodet is committed to community service, with its team volunteering in firm-wide projects and individual capacities to improve Minnesota communities; and
- Many projects designed by Kodet involved significant community engagement to ensure a positive impact on neighborhoods and stakeholders.
“Design excellence is a hallmark of any Kodet project, but what made them outstanding to the jury is far more than their exceptional body of award-winning work,” said Meredith Hayes Gordon, AIA, AIA Minnesota President and selection committee member. “The jury noted that their firm culture has been called a paradigm of community and professional service.”
Kodet Architectural Group has also been a leading contributor to AIA Minnesota success in mentoring the profession. Kodet architects serve as co-chairs on three AIA Minnesota committees: Architecture in the Schools, the Architect Licensing Advisory Committee and Emerging Professionals.
Kodet will be honored at the AIA Minnesota Awards Celebration on December 8, 2017, at International Market Square, Minneapolis. Learn more about the Firm Award here.
